B.F. Sisk Dam and San Luis Reservoir
Project Would Produce Additional Water Supply For 2 Million People, Over 1 Million Acres of Farmland and 200,000 Acres of Pacific Flyway Wetlands
December 31, 2020 - SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On Wednesday, the Bureau of Reclamation sent Congress the final feasibility report for the B.F. Sisk Dam Raise and Reservoir Expansion Project. This marks an important step forward in returning water supply reliability to south-of-Delta farmers, local communities, and wildlife refuges.
“Reclamation has worked hard to make this important project for California’s water supply a reality,”
said Commissioner Brenda Burman. “Dam safety improvements at B.F. Sisk are gearing up; now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity and increase water supply in San Luis Reservoir a win-win for the many that benefit from San Luis Reservoir water.”
The money was authorized through the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act.
Following the latest allocation, Congress has now appropriated roughly $23.7 million in WIIN Act funding to the Bureau of Reclamation for Sites Reservoir.
âWe thank our federal partners for their continued support of Sites Reservoir,â said Sites Project Authority Chairman Fritz Durst in a press release. âOur representatives understand the importance and significance of Sites, and these investments help us maintain momentum and meet critical milestones to advance the project.â
Sites Reservoir will be an off-stream facility that captures and stores stormwater flows from the Sacramento River â after all other water rights and regulatory requirements have been met â for release primarily in dry and critical years for environmental use and various other uses. It is expected to increase the stateâs existing water supply by providing 1.5 million acre-feet o
Sites Reservoir reached a milestone recently with the release of a final feasibility report by the Bureau of Reclamation.
The completion of the report means the project will remain eligible for federal funding under the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act (WIIN Act) and will allow for continued federal participation and potential future investment.
âSites Reservoir has become a shining example of the importance of local, state and federal partnership and collaboration. Weâve been working closely with our federal partners to advance a modern water storage project that will help sustain people, businesses and farms in California for decades to come, while providing a new dedicated supply of water for the environment,â said Sites Project Authority Chairman Fritz Durst in a press release.
