Wilmington Harbor improvement project included in federal legislation

By Christina Haley O Neal, posted Feb 4, 2021 The Wilmington Harbor Navigation Improvement Project proposed by N.C. Ports is now in federal legislation, moving it forward in the federal process. (File photo) Now that the $834 million Wilmington Harbor Navigation Improvement Project is included in federal legislation, funding for studies will be needed to keep the project rolling through the process, officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said this week. The N.C. Ports project, which aims to deepen the Wilmington Harbor navigational channel leading to the Port of Wilmington from 42 feet to 47 feet, has been included as part of the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, signed into law by former President Donald Trump on Dec. 27.

Oregon Business - Battle Lines

Battle Lines Photo: Jason E. Kaplan Irrigation canal on Randall Kizer’s Loosley Ranch in Fort Klamath The future of farming is at stake in the Klamath Basin, where drought is sucking the land dry, and conflicting interests over water use threaten a long-term solution. A cloud hangs over Klamath Basin in Southern Oregon. In a literal sense, the sunless sky is low and gray when I arrive in Klamath Falls on a December afternoon. Lower Monongahela River Project Advances - The Waterways Journal

January 29, 2021 By Shelley Byrne A project to modernize and improve navigation on the Monongahela River in southwestern Pennsylvania is now 68-70 percent complete after more than 25 years of work. The Lower Mon Project could be substantially complete as early as late 2023 or early 2024, said Stephen Frost, project manager for the Pittsburgh Engineer District. The project involves replacing the fixed-crest dam at Locks and Dam 2 at Braddock with a gated dam, removing Locks and Dam 3 at Elizabeth, and constructing a new, larger lock at Locks and Dam 4 at Charleroi. Locks 2, 3 and 4 on the Monongahela in Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties are the three oldest currently operating navigation facilities in the country and experience the highest volume of commercial traffic on the Monongahela River Navigation System.
