Bustos-Diaz apparently fled through a hole in a fence with a fellow inmate, Octavio Ramos-Lopez.
Ramos-Lopez, who was convicted in Hidalgo County, was serving 20 years for two counts of aggravated kidnapping and 12 years for possession of cocaine and possession with intent to deliver cocaine.
An arrest warrant was issued for both men, and local authorities contacted the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force to assist with the manhunt.
The fugitive investigation into the whereabouts of the escapees led authorities to a residence in Reynosa, Mexico, where Ramos-Lopez was arrested and returned to the U.S. with the assistance of Mexican authorities.

HARKER HEIGHTS, TX â A 43-year-old man was taken into custody Monday in Harker Heights for sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child sexual contact.
Victor Manuel Rivera, 43, was taken into custody by the Harker Heights Police and Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in the 2900 block of Stillhouse Lake Road related to a sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child sexual contact investigation.
Rivera was charged with indecency with a child sexual contact and sexual assault of a child under the age of 17 on Jan. 26, according to police.

A man wanted in connection to a New Year s Eve shooting in Copperas Cove is now in police custody.
The Copperas Cove Police Department reported Tuesday afternoon that Calvin Lee Jackson Jr. was apprehended in the 200 block of Jaimie Drive in Harker Heights Monday, January 4 around 2:00 PM.
Harker Heights and Killeen Police had help from the United States marshals with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, and Jackson was transported to the Coryell County Jail. Their records indicate he was booked at 7:30 PM Monday. He remained in custody Tuesday evening charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, family violence.
