United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver II (D-MO) is urging Missouri families to file their taxes before the upcoming May 17 deadline to ensure they receive advance monthly Child Tax Credit payments from the American Rescue Plan as soon as possible.
As part of the American Rescue Plan, families could get monthly payments of up to $300 per child per month beginning as soon as July. The best way to ensure eligible families receive their payments quickly is to file a 2020 tax return by the deadline so the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has the most up-to-date information to calculate and issue advance monthly payments.

In a tweet Monday morning, the governor announced an expansion of the state s Golden State Stimulus, saying: âCA will be expanding the Golden State Stimulus to middle class families creating the biggest state tax rebate in US history. 2 out of every 3 Californians will now benefit from a stimulus check of at least $600. And families with kids will now get an additional $500.â

California Governor Gavin Newsom is hoping to send out another massive round of stimulus checks to constituents, with more than 65 percent of the state s population poised to receive a payment.
On Monday, Newsom announced a proposed expansion of the Golden State Stimulus, a program that sent out millions of direct payments in May. Initially, only lower-income and noncitizens were eligible for the payment, but if the Legislature approves the expansion, approximately two out of every three Californians would also receive additional funds.
An estimated $12 billion would be used for direct payments to individuals earning up to $75,000, Newsom said. Just shy of 80 percent of taxpayers and about two-thirds of all Californians would be eligible for a payment, according to the governor.
Immigration reform advocates from Faith in Action Bay Area gathered outside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office in the San Francisco Federal Building Friday urging Pelosi to seek to persuade Congress to include a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants into Biden’s $7 trillion infrastructure plan, called the Build Back Better plan.
Specifically, Faith in Action Bay Area wants the immigration measure to be included in the Biden infrastructure plan and for that plan to be passed by budget reconciliation, a filibuster-proof legislative procedure that would allow the Democrats to pass legislation without Republican support.
