Twice as many failing grades were distributed during the first quarter at Bedford High School than in the previous year â another devastating side-effect of the pandemic that is causing concern among educators.
âIt is scary, I know,â Principal Bob Jozokos said of the rise in failing grades, which is a trend hitting all areas of the country and all academic levels.
According to Jozokos, 669 failing grades were handed out in the first quarter of this year compared to 299 Fâs during the same quarter last year, 349 the year prior and 337 the year before that.
This represents about a 103% increase of the average of the previous three years, he told school officials this week.

INDIANAPOLIS The Next Level Teacher Compensation Commission released its report detailing dozens of recommendations for making teacher pay competitive with surrounding states.
The commission found Hoosier teachers would need an average salary of $60,000 to keep Indiana competitive with surrounding states. In the 2018-2019 school year, the average pay for Indiana teachers was $51,119. That ranked the state 38th for teacher pay.
Teachers in Indiana make less than teachers in all the surrounding states and have a starting salary of $36,498 which is $3,600 below the national average.
YUHSD goes remote learning for the first week of spring semester

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD) students will continue their education through online learning for the spring semester beginning January 6, 2021.
As for special education students, they will continue to be provided with educational services based on 504 plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through distance learning.
However, on-site learning will be available to those students based on IEP team decisions.
YUHSD said it would continue to monitor weekly COVID-19 metrics released by the Arizona Department of Health Services and discuss its learning schedule in their next meeting on January 13, 2021.
