Idaho s Bald Mountain an idyllic destination for skiers awaits your arrival.
February 2021
For the better part of a century, the spectacular 9,150-foot Bald Mountain in Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountain National Forest has attracted downhill skiers and winter revelers. The pitch and varied terrain of the mountain, which features a 3,400-foot vertical drop, make it one of the world’s great snow-sport destinations.
And, yes, Sun Valley is open this winter and spring, although to maintain social distancing, the numbers of daily lift tickets on both Bald and nearby Dollar Mountain are being limited.
As I write this, Bald Mountain (affectionately called “Baldy”) has a packed powder base of 86 inches at the 5,730-foot level with 103 inches at the summit. Eleven lifts are operating to 101 trails, of which 61 are groomed.

Buy One Pass And Ski Or Ride At 61 Resorts
Can you imagine being able to ski or ride on 61 different resorts by simply buying one pass. I know what you re thinking. This has to be super expensive . The truth of the matter is that I was blown away at how affordable the Indy Pass really is. I was even more impressed at how many resorts are now participating in Idaho. In a press release sent out today I learned that Soldier Mountain Ski Area in Fairfield, Idaho, and Pomerelle Mountain Resort in Albion, Idaho, have joined the Indy Pass, and each resort will provide Indy Pass holders with two days of skiing or riding through the end of the 2020-21 season. Add Brundage, Tamarack and Silver Mountain to that list and all of a sudden you have some real options for shredding in Idaho all for one price. What is the price and what does the deal include? See all the details according to the Indy Ski press release:

Enjoying retro ticket prices and throwback facilities, a skier explores the uncrowded ski resorts in Idaho just before social distancing becomes a common phrase.
“We’ve hit every trail now, so which ones do you want to do again?” Tony asked. It was quiet on the mountain, only an occasional other skier in sight, the creak of the lift chair being the only sound besides a breeze rustling the evergreen trees.
This was the seventh Idaho ski resort the two of us had experienced and it was a fitting end to a week and a half of mostly empty slopes, no lift lines, and no pretention. That s exactly what I had been looking for. I wanted to see if there was a part of America left where normal people still went skiing from apartments they could actually afford, an area where every other lift ride wouldn’t involve a conversation with a hedge fund manager, surgeon, or corporate attorney.

After nearly 40 years of ups and downs, the resort around West Mountain near Donnelly is poised to enter its next phase, with a big vision for the future of Tamarack Resort.
About two years after new ownership took control, a revamp of its master plan shows a new gondola, added ski lifts, large-scale terrain expansion, a new mountaintop lodge, new hiking, climbing area, mountain coaster, and more.
Tamarack spent more than a year improving the resort and upgrading its Master Development Plan, which calls for significant expansion.Last August, the resort sent in its final MDP to the U.S. Forest Service. Now the resort’s next step is submitting a special use permit application.
