I am doing this as a doctor and a member of the IMA, to instill confidence among Health Care Workers. I request all to get vaccinated and safeguard themselves from Covid , tweeted the Minister on Friday.

Chennai, Jan 22: In a bid to gather confidence amongst the health workers about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines, Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar took the coronavirus vaccine at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Friday.
According to the union health ministry s guidelines, only health professionals across the country will be administered the COVID vaccine dosages during the first phase. Vijayabaskar, in his capacity as a doctor and member of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has volunteered to be inoculated. I will be taking the #Covidvaccine shot at 9 am @gmcrgggh. I am doing this as a doctor & member of IMA, to instill confidence among Health Care Workers. Private hospitals are requesting for permission to begin vaccination, said Vijayabaskar.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar has announced that he would be taking the COVID-19 vaccine coming Friday here at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
Addressing reporters at the State Drug Store, after inspecting the additional 5,08,500 vaccine doses which arrived on Friday, the Minister said that he would be taking the vaccine as well.
“Earlier, there was slight fear among people and also there was Pongal festival. To clear that, many doctors and members of Indian Medical Association took the vaccine. Even I will be taking it now - not as a Minister but as a doctor and a member of IMA,” he said.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan reviews COVID-19 vaccination dry run in Chennai
Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan Friday visited Chennai s Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital to review the dry run for administering the Covid-19 vaccine. The second nationwide dry run on the Covid 19 vaccination is being held today in 736 districts across 33 states and Union Territories. The dry run will also familiarise the state, district, block, and hospital-level officers on all aspects of vaccine rollout.Â
Harsh Vardhan was accompanied by Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr. C Vijayabaskar at the Chennai s General Hospital. While addressing the media, Vardhan said, In a short time, India has done well by developing vaccines. In the next few days, in the near future, we should be able to give these vaccines to our countrymen. It will be given to our healthcare professional followed by frontline workers.

The electronic vaccine intelligence network (eVIN), now converted into a CoWIN platform, is now tracking details of potential beneficiaries for the COVID-19 vaccine, the place where he/she is likely to get the vaccination, pre and post-vaccination including issuing an electronic certificate, following up for the second dose through detailed text messages and reminders, according to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.
