Heavy security deployment in Tamil Nadu for polling day ANI | Updated: Apr 05, 2021 18:01 IST
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 4 (ANI): Tamil Nadu will witness the polling for the assembly elections on Tuesday amid tight security in the state. As many as 74,162 personnel from Tamil Nadu Local & Armed Reserve (AR) Police, 8,010 personnel from Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) and 23, 200 personnel from the CAPF have been deployed for the elections, according to the Tamil Nadu Police.
34,130 non-police personnel have also been deployed, including Home Guard, Forest Guard, Retired Police and ex-CAPF along with 6,350 police personnel and 12,411 Home Guard from other states.
Polling across 234 assembly constituencies in 38 districts of the state will begin at 7 am. A total of 3,998 candidates are in the poll fray. In view of COVID-19, the number of polling stations has been increased to 88,937.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 5 (ANI): It is a crucial election for actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth not only because his party DMDK failed to open its account in the previous assembly polls but also because of his decision to leave the AIADMK-led alliance ahead of the state polls.
DMDK is contesting the Tamil Nadu elections in alliance with TTV Dhinakaran s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK).
Vijayraj Alagarswami Vijayakanth, known as Captain , launched his own party Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) on September 14, 2005, in Madurai riding on his popularity as a film actor.

April 6 and the counting of votes will be done on
May 2.
The voting will take place strictly following the COVID-19 protocols issued by the Union Health Ministry. The officials inside polling booths will wear masks, face shields, and gloves and use hand sanitisers, said the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The voting time have been increased by an hour. The number of polling booths has also been increased from 66,007 to 88,936, added the ECI.

There are 234 Assembly constituencies in the state of Tamil Nadu. 118 is the magic number i.e, the minimum seats required for a party or a coalition to stake claim for the formation of the government.
