In 2018, Dhinakaran launched his political party named Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam (AMMK). Born in Nagapattinam district, he is the nephew of V K Sasikala, a former politician who served as the national president of the AMMK and confidant of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. From 1999 to 2004, Dhinakaran represented Periyakulam, a Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu as an AIADMK candidate. From 2004 till 2010, he was a Rajya Sabha member. After winning the 2017 RK Nagar by-election, Dhinakaran was reinducted into AIADMK but was expelled.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 5 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Karuppa Palaniswami has expressed confidence that his party, the AIADMK, would emerge victorious in the assembly elections on April 6.
Born in Edappadi town of Salem district in Tamil Nadu, Palaniswami began his career in politics with AIADMK in 1974. He was born on May 12, 1954. His father Karuppa Gounder and mother Thavasiyammal were both farmers by profession. He hails from the influential Gounder community. However, after completing his schooling, he got enrolled in college but could not complete the course due to personal reasons.
Dubai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party chief M.K. Stalin is confident of winning the Tamil Nadu state assembly elections and promises to give a corruption-free, investor-friendly and development-oriented government.
The DMK-led alliance is contesting all 234 seats on offer in tomorrow’s (April 6) elections in the state, which has the third-largest economy in India in terms of GDP. The veteran leader, who is facing the biggest challenge of his political career, said he would place Tamil Nadu firmly back on the growth path.
“People have decided to change this AIADMK government and are eagerly awaiting the return of people-friendly and development-oriented DMK government. I could see this from the overwhelming response given by people everywhere I visited over the last four months.
