Tangedco had filed a petition seeking tariff clarification in respect of establishments where no manufacturing activity is being carried out and charged under ‘HT Tariff I A’ based on registered factories licences and under ‘LT Tariff III B’ without any certificate for manufacturing of goods. Protesting trade unions including the LPF, CITU, AITUC and INTUC said that four TNSTC employees namely driver S. Mohanraj, conductors N. Thirumoorthy, R. Kamaraj and checking inspector P. Selvaraj were transferred to other locations from Sungam-II depot and Ukkadam. The four employees had actively taken part in the strike on Friday.

Transport officials said that out of 864 town and mofussil buses available for Coimbatore district, only 454 buses (52.5%) were operated on Friday. This marked a decline from Thursday as around 663 buses or around 76% were operated in the district.

A large number of commuters were seen waiting at bus stops in the morning and the private buses ran jam-packed throughout the day. The situation was worse in rural areas and on the city outskirts as school and college students, workers and other people waited for long hours for buses.

However, CITU claimed around 65 % of the buses were not operated Despite the strike called by transport trade unions, the Coimbatore division of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) claimed that over 70 % of buses were operated in Coimbatore district on Thursday. According to TNSTC officials, around 663 town and mofussil buses out of the total 868 buses were operated within Coimbatore district. All these buses were operated using permanent government employees such as drivers, conductors and supervisors and no contract workers were utilised. Due to this, the commuters in the district were not affected, they claimed. However, general secretary of CITU Coimbatore unit M. Velankanni Raj claimed that around 65 % of the buses were not operated in the district on Thursday and that only 20 buses were operated per TNSTC branch in the district.
