Committee asks banks to ensure adherence to SOPs Updated: Updated: Violation of norms punishable under Public Health Act Share Article Violation of norms punishable under Public Health Act The State-level Bankers Committee (SLBC) has written to all member banks to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures to be followed for preventing COVID-19. The Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Government of Tamil Nadu, held a meeting on April 8 to re-sensitise the banks about the procedures to be followed to contain the spread of the virus. Banks were told that non-adherence to norms was punishable under the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act, 1939. All the customers and the public (including staff members) visiting the banks should compulsorily wear masks covering their mouth and nose from the time they enter the premises until they leave, the SLBC said in its notification.

Coimbatore: The city corporation has resumed the drive to inspect commercial establishments and other public places to check for violations of Covid-19 guidelines in the wake of a spike in daily count. On Wednesday, the civic body has collected a fine of Rs 1.03 lakh for violations of Covid-19 protocols. A city corporation official said, “We have been inspecting commercial establishments and other public places. Penalty will be slapped on the owners of commercial establishments for violations, if any, as it is their responsibility to ensure adherence to Covid protocols by their customers. On Wednesday, we fined both individuals and commercial establishments and collected Rs 1,03,100. The drive will continue.”

Coimbatore: At a time when the number of Covid cases has been rising across the country and the state government has issued fresh travel guidelines for the international and domestic passengers, city residents flouting mask and social distancing norms have become a common sight in the public places. “Though there is no major rise in Covid cases within the city limits, we need to be cautious and follow all the guidelines to prevent another spike. But people are not taking the precautionary guidelines seriously due to drop in Covid cases,” an official from the health wing of the city corporation said.
