The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has rejected a plea by The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI), Chennai over norms that require earmarking space for the establishment of a substation, where the total area of the buildings exceed 30,000 square meters or the power load exceeds 5 Mega Volt Amp (MVA).
An amendment was made to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Distribution Code effective January 29, 2020.
CREDAI, Chennai had moved a clarificatory petition before the TNERC over the norms. Its petition sought that the amendment be made prospective, and not retrospective.

Receives approval to procure 1,000 MW via short-term measures The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd. (Tangedco) has received approval from the State power regulator to procure 1,000 MW using short-term measures for this summer.
In its petition before Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC), the power utility said it expected minimum demand to increase during this summer to 15,100 MW, up 4% from about 14,500 MW during the summer of 2019. The summer demand in 2020 could not be taken as the yardstick because of the COVID-19-induced lockdown, it added.

Policy to be adopted till TNERC decides appropriate tariff for EVs
Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd. (Tangedco) said public charging stations for electric vehicles would attract commercial tariff and private charging stations at homes would attract domestic tariff.
This would be adopted till Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) decides on appropriate tariff for public charging stations for electric vehicles, the Tangedco said in an order issued on December 17.
“As per the Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicle Policy, 2019, the tariff applicable for domestic consumption shall be applicable for private charging stations at home and classified as LT Tariff-IA 230 Volt /415 Volt as per Tariff order dated 11.08.2017,” the order noted.
