When the Honda Civic Type R first arrived in the United States back in 2017, the excitement was palpable. It was the first time Honda had ever offered the Civic Type R in the US, and enthusiasts were understandably excited. Many even paid an exorbitant dealership markup to be among the first to own one. A brand-new 2022 Civic model is on the way, but Honda wants to squeeze all the mileage it can out of the outgoing car, especially the Type R.
The Japanese automaker revealed a lighter weight Type R Limited Edition, with only 1,000 units available worldwide (600 in the US). Finished in a bright shade of Phoenix Yellow, we expected the Type R to be popular amongst enthusiasts. Nabbing one of the 600 examples allocated to the US will not be an easy task, and CarBuzz has already spotted some astronomical dealer markups (aka market adjustments).

The FK8 iteration of the Civic Type R (part of the tenth-generation series) clearly builds on the company’s heritage of developing great hot hatchbacks that are fun to drive, affordable enough to keep the bank from stamping it with the foreclosure notice, and ready to give hell to just about anyone brave enough to challenge it.
The Honda Civic Type R has been sitting at the throne of the hot hatch segment for quite some time now, and the latest Limited Edition proves to be the most focused performer of the lineup widening the gap even further from its front-wheel drive competitors.
The Civic Type R Limited Edition is slightly lighter and more aggressive in its setup, while the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine has been left untouched, producing the same 306 HP (310 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque as the standard model.
Honda will produce a total of 1,020 examples of the FK8 Civic Type R Limited Edition worldwide, with the US market getting 600 of them and the UK just 20, with the latter being sold-out.
