Rescue helicopter picks up patient from Holly Hut, Mt Taranaki

The Taranaki rescue helicopter was called to Holly Hut on Mt Taranaki on Friday morning. The Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter flew to Mt Taranaki on Friday morning to pick up a patient from Holly Hut. “We responded at 7.30 this morning to an urgent call requesting the transport of an ill patient,” a duty crewman said via text. Police search and rescue were able to confirm the location was Holly Hut, which is three to four hours’ tramp from North Egmont Visitor Centre, the spokesperson said. “Our team was able to land at the hut and quickly assessed the patient needed to be evacuated to Taranaki Base Hospital.

Three injured after vehicles collide south of Stratford

Three people were taken to hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Central Taranaki on Thursday. A car and van collided on State Highway 3, just south of Stratford, about 11.15am, a police spokeswoman said. Police, firefighters, St John ambulance staff and the Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter all responded. One patient with serious injuries was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital while two others were taken to Hāwera Hospital. All were transported by St John ambulance, the spokeswoman said. Marine rescue off South Taranaki coast is a timely warning for boaties

Stuff Taranaki police Search and Rescue (SAR) coordinator Andrew Wong Too wants everybody heading into the marine environment this summer to make sure they’re prepared and have the essential safety equipment. With survival time measured in minutes not hours, Taranaki police Sergeant Andrew Wong Too knew speed was of the essence when a boat capsized this week and three men were thrown into the water. About 3.50pm on Tuesday, the trio’s boat rolled as they attempted to navigate the bar at the Pātea river mouth following a fishing trip. Emergency services, including police, the South Taranaki Coastguard, Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter and an Airforce Orion P3 were alerted and took part in the ensuing search.

Helicopter crewman Luke Miller was involved with winching an injured Russian sailor off a fishing boat 30 nautical miles off the Taranaki coast last weekend but fortunately did not have to go into the water.
