Scottish beef farmers continue to receive highest prices in 20 years © SYSTEM Farmgate cattle prices are at their highest level in more than 20 years, according to QMS. Scottish farmers and crofters are receiving some of the highest prices paid in more than 20 years for their cattle, according to figures from Quality Meat Scotland (QMS). Data from the red meat levy body reveals farmgate prime cattle prices continue to be at the highest level for more than 20 years, with current prices trading around 25% higher than this time last year. Prime cattle sold at ANM Group’s Thainstone Mart, near Inverurie, on Thursday averaged 233.2p per kg for bullocks and 236.9p per kg for heifers. This compares to average prices of 186.3p for bullocks and 192.3p for heifers at their sale on May 7, 2020.
