Advocacy Groups Appeal Keystone XL Water Quality Certification

Environmental groups are calling for the state of Montana to reconsider a water quality certification that allows the Keystone XL crude oil pipeline to cross more than 200 protected water bodies in the eastern part of the state. Billings based Northern Plains Resource Council and the Sierra Club filed a notice of appeal with the state Board of Environmental Review Monday. The groups challenge the Montana Department of Environmental Quality’s decision last week to issue Canadian developer TC Energy a 401 Water Quality Certification with conditions.

Fox21Online December 28, 2020 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Opponents of a pipeline project that crosses three states have asked a federal court to halt construction in Minnesota on allegations that U.S. Army Corps of Engineers failed to address several environmental issues when it approved a water quality permit. Two Minnesota Ojibwe bands and two environmental groups filed a lawsuit Thursday that asks for a preliminary injunction to stop work on the Enbridge Energy Line 3 pipeline that began early this month across northern Minnesota. Line 3 starts in Alberta and clips a corner of North Dakota before crossing northern Minnesota en route to Enbridge’s terminal in Superior, Wisconsin.

Staff writer Shelley Hanson QUESTIONS â An environmental group is challenging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in court regarding the permitting process of the fracking waste recycling facility in Martins Ferry. MARTINS FERRY A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit that would allow a fracking waste loading facility to be constructed on the Ohio River in Martins Ferry is being challenged by an environmental group. The Corps permit was requested March 30 by 4K Industrial “to construct a barge loading and off-loading waterfront facility. The facility will be receiving fluids from the gas and oil markets for processing, to reuse the fluids for drilling operations or to be sent to a disposal facility.”
