Cambodia: Progressing Toward Universal Health Care

To tackle these issues, Cambodia is renewing its commitment to carry out the next implementation phase of the Health Equity and Quality Improvement Project (H-EQIP). The project targets health equity and quality improvement by focusing on financing sustainability and implementation of major health system initiatives. It builds on the work carried out by the Government of Cambodia and its development partners over the years to improve access to quality health services for targeted population groups, while protecting against impoverishment due to health service costs to patients.

Texas’ Republican leaders were abruptly reminded of that Friday, when the Biden administration announced it was rescinding an 11th-hour waiver extension issued by the Trump administration relating to the Medicaid program. The waiver has continued the flow of federal dollars to Texas to prop up hospitals that treat low-income, uninsured residents even as the GOP-led state has refused to expand Medicaid through Obamacare.
To hear Republicans such as Gov. Greg Abbott tell it, the president cruelly yanked the rug out from under some of the state’s most vulnerable Texans while we’re still in a pandemic, no less. Spicing up the cooking challenge: 2.8 billion or 4 billion?

In September 2020, ESMAP launched The State of Access to Modern Energy Cooking Services report, which estimates that 4 billion people around the world still lack access to clean, efficient, convenient, safe, reliable, and affordable cooking energy. Many people noticed that this access deficit figure differed from that of the 2020 Tracking SDG 7: The Energy Progress Report, which found that 2.8 billion people globally still cook with traditional polluting fuels and technologies. Given the slow progress toward universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern cooking energy a key element for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) are we complicating this already daunting challenge? Let’s take a closer look at what each number means and the policy implications.
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) was founded in 1943 by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to assist the poor and disadvantaged. CRS returned to Cambodia in 1991 and currently works in the sectors of Health and Inclusive Education, with approximately 15 local partners. A head office is located in Phnom Penh.
