Biden concludes infrastructure talks with Republicans without reaching deal
White House will now shift focus to working with a bipartisan group of 20 senators

President Biden on Tuesday concluded efforts to reach a deal with Senate Republicans on his American Jobs Plan.
The president s original $2 trillion infrastructure and jobs plan, introduced in late March, included $621 billion dedicated to transportation infrastructure. A few weeks later, Senate Republicans unveiled their own $568 billion infrastructure package, which included $299 billion for roads and bridges and $61 billion for public transit systems.
The president was in negotiations with Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito (West Virginia), the leading Republican negotiator and Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee. May 19, 2021 • (TNS) Local and regional broadband projects may get a boost from Washington based on a bipartisan effort led by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R- W.Va.
Capito and Sen. Maggie Hassan, D- N.H., on Tuesday reintroduced the Rural Broadband Financing Flexibility Act, which would help states, cities,and towns spur investment in rural broadband projects.
The goal is to provide state and local governments options relating to financing broadband projects, including the issuance of tax-exempt bonds, public-private partnerships, federal tax credits and federal bond payment assistance.

WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK
Administration Proposal. President Joe Biden will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 31, where he will unveil the contours of the infrastructure package.
Biden Preliminary Budget Outline. This week, the Biden administration will release a preview of its Fiscal Year 2022 budget. The figures will allow lawmakers to begin the appropriations process and give Congress information about the president’s discretionary funding priorities. The final budget request is currently expected in May.
Congress Continues Work. Although both chambers will be out of session for the next two weeks on a district work period, lawmakers will continue discussions on the contents of the infrastructure package.
