The Border Security Force (BSF) late last night thwarted an intrusion bid by Pakistan smugglers in the Hindumalkot area, near Dullapur Keri village, in Sriganganagar sector, 35 km from here.
Rs 2-cr heroin seized
Fazilka: The BSF claimed to have recovered a 470-gram packet of heroin, worth Rs2.35 crore in the international market, in the area of Tahliwala border outpost in Fazilka district on Monday. The troops of BSF’s 52 Battalion recovered the packet from the fields of a farmer, Darshan Singh, across the barbed fencing. OC
Official sources said the troops spotted suspected movement of smugglers close to the fencing and challenged them drawing fire. The troops retaliated, prompting the smugglers to flee. A packet containing 1 kg suspected heroin was found in the fields between the fencing and zero line. Joshimath, Uttarakhand – On Sunday morning, Rishi Prasad, 57, ran as fast as he could to save his son but he could reach the tunnel where his son was, massive boulders, trees and mud had already blocked its entrance.
Abhishek Panth, 24, was working in an under-construction tunnel near Tapovan Dam, at the confluence of Dhauliganga and Rishiganga Rivers – in Chamoli district about 280km (173 miles) east of Dehradun, capital of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.
Panth is among the dozens of people still trapped inside the 2km (1.24-mile) long tunnel, Aparna Kumar of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which is a part of the rescue operations, told Al Jazeera on Tuesday.
Committed to cause, farmers at Tikri Border not fazed by difficulties

New Delhi, Feb 6 : Farmers sitting on protest at Tikri, at the Delhi-Haryana Border, have an unflinching resolve that difficulties cannot be a stumbling block for them.
Speaking to IANS, Manjeet Singh, a farmer from Haryana’s Fatehabad district, said, “It has been 74 days since we have been sitting on protest in this cold weather, along with our families. We hope the Modi government takes back these three ‘black’ farm laws,” he added.
Clearly, the sentiment on the ground is that despite the extreme cold, farmers will continue to sit out in the open in pursuit of their cause.

As the result of this drive four armed associates of Sampat Nehra and Deepak @ Tinu, prominent members of Lawrance Bishnoi group have been arrested.
