Extensive mass sensitisation programme launched

With the number of COVID-19 cases going up in the last fortnight, the Dharwad district administration has embarked on an extensive sensitisation programme in a bid to increase adherence to health protocol.
According to official data, Dharwad district has recorded 1,100 new cases in the last 18 days and registered 20 deaths due to the pandemic. On Monday, the district administration along with the police launched a mass sensitisation programme.
Leading a team along with Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Labhu Ram, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Yeshvanth Madinkar, vaccination nodal officer S.M. Honakeri, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil visited market areas and infection-prone areas as part of the awareness programme. During the programme, the officials emphasised on the need for wearing face masks, using hand sanitisers and maintaining physical distancing.
Areas with five cases to be declared containment zones

Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil has said that with a view to checking the spread of the pandemic, it has been decided to declare areas with five or more positive cases as containment zones.
Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Patil said that the move was aimed at checking the spread of the infection and it will help in restricting the movement of infected people so that they do not become super spreaders.
He said that municipal officials and tahsildars had been authorised to declare containment zones in areas, hostels, colleges and apartments where more than five positive cases are reported. Directions have already been issued to ensure that there is no dereliction of duties by officials and the onus is now on health officials to go that extra mile and stop the pandemic in its tracks. 30 hostel residents test positive

After RT-PCR tests were conducted on residents of various government-run hostels in the twin cities, as many as 30 were found COVID-19 positive.
According to a press release issued by Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil, as per directions of the Health Ministry, RT-PCR tests were conducted on residents of hostels run by the Social Welfare Department in the twin cities. However as some of them returned to their native places before the results were confirmed, it had become a matter of concern for the administration as they would then have to trace their primary and secondary contacts too.
