Philippines AIMAG Chef de Mission says postponement will benefit athletes

Richard Lim, Chef de Mission for the Philippines at the upcoming Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), has backed the postponement of the event and believes it could benefit the nation. Earlier this month, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) moved the AIMAG from May 2021 to March 2022 because of the coronavirus crisis. Lim, who is also Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation President, backed this and said athletes focus would now turn to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where possible. (MB File Photo) The Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation plans to send its athletes to a training camp in Istanbul, Turkey in preparation for the world qualification tournament to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Karate president Richard Lim said select athletes will be up for extensive training from March to May, where they will join several pocket tournaments. They have also been invited to train at Turkey’s Olympic Center with the Turkish National team. “Turkey has the highest level of karate in sparring. They are also good in kata, actually very balanced ang Turkey pagdating sa karate events. And their training system is in high level kaya it’s good for out athletes,” Lim said in Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Online Forum.

Teqball given royal approval in Malaysian region of Perlis Sunday, 17 January 2021 The Prince of the Malaysian state of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, has given his royal approval for the introduction and promotion of teqball throughout the region. According to Malaysian publication Suara Merdeka, the Prince believes the sport could put the state on the map, as well as promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among the people of the area. He supported the introduction of the sport following a briefing by the President of the Malaysian Teqball Association (MTA), KJ Silva, and MTA vice-president Nasruddin Nazar in the state royal capital of Arau.
