An award-winning teacher in Cache County now faces a charge of child abuse for allegedly attacking up to five students.
Scott Daniel Meeker, 51, of Wellsville, was charged Friday in 1st District Court with child abuse, a second-degree felony; and four counts of assault, a class B misdemeanor.
Meeker, a seventh grade science teacher at Spring Creek Middle School, 350 W. 100 North in Providence, is accused of “snapping” or “losing his cool” on Wednesday as school was letting out and shoving or punching five students, according to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident started when a boy was walking down the hall and jumping to hit the top of the lockers.

Scott D. Meeker, 50, faces one count of second-degree child abuse and four counts of class-B misdemeanor assault. The charges were filed with the court on Friday morning.
According to a statement from the Cache County Sheriffâs Office, a resource officer working at the Providence middle school had been notified of an alleged assault on a student by a teacher on Wednesday. That evening, Lt. Doyle Peck wrote, a local hospital reported a student being treated for an injury, and the student was âone of several victims in the alleged incident.â

MILLVILLE, Utah â Video showing a student cutting down a pride flag from Ridgeline High School Tuesday has drawn condemnation from the Cache County School District.

The unidentified student can be seen removing the flag from the second floor of the commons area at the Millville campus. A majority of other students can be heard cheering in the video when the flag falls.
The pride flag was put up with flags from all the countries of the world to celebrate diversity week, and though students said the person who tore it down wasnât hateful, it was still hurtful.

MILLVILE – Students rallied for their LGBTQ classmates at Ridgeline High School in Cache County after video surfaced online of another teen cutting down a pride flag during a diversity week event.
Several who spoke with KSL-TV said they were calling for positive change to come out of the incident.
It shocked and frightened students who attended the after-school event for the Gay-Straight Alliance. Oh, I m terrified. I wasn t allowed to go to school today, said freshman Spencer Wilkinson.
Wilkinson said what she found at school Wednesday afternoon, however, changed that terror to encouragement as she was met with quite the opposite – a rally for support outside her school.
