The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 is a legislative bill that was proposed by President Biden on his first day in office. Here are some of the salient highlights of this Bill.
Pathway to Citizenship. The Bill provides a pathway to citizenship for undocumented individuals, provided they pass national security and criminal background checks and have paid their taxes. The Dreamers, holders of Temporary Protective Status (TPS) and migrant farmworkers may be eligible for green cards immediately. Within three years of obtaining a green card, applicants can apply to become naturalized citizens.
Clearing Employment-Based Visa Backlogs. The Bill clears away the backlogs for employment-based visas, reduces lengthy wait times and eliminates the $250,000 per-country visa caps. It will be easier for graduates of U.S. universities with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) degrees to remain in the United States and the Bill eliminates

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Biden administrationâs effort to overhaul immigration laws and include a pathway to citizenship for undocumented people would be âtransformativeâ for Birmingham and Alabama according to one Birmingham-area advocate.
Carlos Aleman, CEO of the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama says if the administrationâs proposed 8-year pathway to citizenship were to become law, it would allow more children to go to school and more undocumented people to open businesses. Aleman, who was also recently elected to the Homewood City Council, says the potential economic impact could be in the billions of dollars.

During his first day in office President Joe Biden made some significant changes to orders issued by his predecessor, President Trump; a move that dismantled major parts of the Trump administration’s immigration legacy.
On his last day in office, Trump authorized the Deferred Enforcement Departure program offering Venezuelan in exile protection from deportation.
“This is something totally separate from an asylum application. They could be in a different status; they could have no status at all, and they may be able to apply for the DED,” Milena Portillo, an immigration attorney in Orlando said about the DED program.
