A new team of specialist counsellors is helping people with cancer and their carers in Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire – thanks to charitable donations. Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, is funding a pilot project, offering psychological support to people diagnosed with cancer and to their carers. As well as helping patients and their carers, the new service is also working with the cancer workforce in Hywel Dda, providing training so healthcare staff can enhance their skills in offering psychological support, along with supervision and support to empower the cancer teams. The Cancer Psychological Support Service (CaPS) is run and managed by Hywel Dda University Health Board and sees the four counsellors working across the whole of the three counties.

Pictured with the giant cheque are butcher Dafydd Davies and his uncle, Dilwyn James A third-generation butcher has presented a £2,000 cheque to the local NHS after producing a tasty charity cookbook. Dafydd Davies, of Dewi James a’i Gwmni in Cardigan, wanted to do something to say thank you to health workers in the Hywel Dda area. So, he put together ‘Chefs in Isolation’, a cookbook featuring family recipes from the butchers’ shop and recipes from chefs supplied with their meat. Dafydd, 32, works with his mum, Elin Davies, uncle, Dilwyn James and a talented team. He said they were thrilled to have raised money for the hard-working, local NHS staff in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
HYWEL Dda Health Charities 2020 Christmas cards are on sale and all proceeds will support younger adult mental health services in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. There are four festive designs and this year the charity is including delivery to make it easier for people to safely get their cards. The packs of 10 cards are bilingual and cost £3.95. There are two new designs for 2020 - The Star on Top and Garden Robin also available are the popular Baa Baa Humbug and Brass Band by the Tree. There is one design per pack and the bilingual greeting inside reads: Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda / Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
