Sir Joe Bossano was formally appointed Minister with responsibility for Financial Stability on Wednesday, losing no time to stress that the community faced a “challenging time financially” as it recovered from the Covid crisis.
He was speaking a day after the Cabinet held an emergency meeting to begin discussing the next budget in the early summer.
Sir Joe’s appointment, first flagged by Chief Minister Fabian Picardo in a New Year message earlier this week, was formalised on Wednesday when Mr Picardo advised the Governor, Vice Admiral Sir David Steel, to add the portfolio to his existing ministerial brief.

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory that occupies a narrow peninsula of Spain’s southern Mediterranean coast, just northeast of the Strait of Gibraltar, on the east side of the Bay of Gibraltar.
This 5 km long, 1.2 km wide land is connected to Spain by a 1-mile-long isthmus. Vaccine’s arrival on Rock signals ‘beginning of end of Covid nightmare’

The “beginning to the end of the Covid-19 nightmare” will commence at 8am Sunday morning following the arrival of approximately 7,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine on a military aircraft on Saturday evening.
The highly anticipated arrival was followed by many across the Rock on flight-tracking software, and by officials and dignitaries who were present on the airfield apron and in the basement of St Bernard’s Hospital where the vaccines will be kept in freezers under high surveillance.
The Governor, Vice Admiral Sir David Steel, and Chief Minister Fabian Picardo were at the airfield to see the A400 land in unpleasant weather conditions.
