New Delhi: Lockdown was extended in Bihar and Himachal Pradesh on Monday (May 24) till May end while Uttarakhand too decided to continue with the COVID-induced curfew, as several states said that the restrictions have led to an improvement in the pandemic situation.
States and Union Territories started imposing restrictions from mid-April for varying periods as the deadly second wave of coronavirus hit the country and most of them have now extended the curbs till the end of this month to rein in the spread of infection and the mounting deaths which have crossed the three lakh mark.

This is the lowest number of daily cases recorded since March 27 (1,558 cases) and the count has gone below the 2,000-mark for the second consecutive day. The positivity rate in the national capital stands at 2.52 per cent. According to the latest health bulletin, the 207 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 23,409.

HYDERABAD: The hopes of the Telangana state government to procure Covid-19 vaccines through global tenders took a hit after the manufacturers informed a few states such as Delhi and Punjab that they would not supply vaccines directly to the states but would deal with the Centre.

5,424 ‘black fungus’ cases in India; 84% had COVID history and 55% diabetic: health minister Harsh Vardhan
The Union Health Minister informed the majority of the black fungus cases are reported from Gujarat and Maharashtra. Meanwhile today, the first cases of yellow fungus was reported in Uttar Pradesh.

A total of 5,424 cases of mucormycosis, commonly known as ‘black fungus’, have been reported from 18 states, said Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan today during a virtual meeting with a group of ministers on the COVID19 pandemic.
“Of the 5,424 cases of Mucormycosis, we have seen that 4,556 cases have a history of COVID19 infection, while 875 cases are amongst non-COVID patients. Diabetes was present in 55 per cent of the patients,” he said.
