The Congress on Wednesday announced its first list of 59 candidates for the November 9 Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls, with Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh being fielded from the Arki constituency.
The list was finalised after a marathon meeting of the Congress central election committee chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi. Nominees for the rest nine seats, including Shimla (Rural), would be announced later.

CHANDIGARH: Two-time Member of Parliament of Bhartiya Janta Party from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh Ram Swaroop Sharma was found dead in his Delhi residence under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday.
Sources said that 62-year-old Sharma was found hanging at his flat in Gomti apartments near RML Hospital in the national capital. The door of his flat was closed from inside. The police reached his apartment after receiving a phone call from one of his staff members.
The reason behind the alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained.

The already beleaguered Congress has suffered another jolt just ahead of the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh as 27 of the party’s 36 legislators who are supporting Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh have sought the intervention of Congress president Sonia Gandhi after Virbhadra Singh announced that he will not contest the assembly elections to be held later this year.
