Nokia has announced it has concluded a “multi-year, multi-technology patent cross-license agreement with Lenovo”, and while Lenovo will “make a net balancing payment to Nokia”, the terms of the agreement remain confidential.
Importantly, we’re told the agreement “resolves all pending patent litigation and other proceedings between the two parties, in all jurisdictions.”
Jenni Lukander, President of Nokia Technologies, said: “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Lenovo. The agreement reflects Nokia’s decades-long investments in R&D and contributions to cellular and multimedia standards.
Nokia, Lenovo Conclude Patent Cross-license Deal, Settle Litigation
ESPOO (dpa-AFX) - Finnish telecom equipment maker Nokia Corp. said it concluded a multi-year, multi-technology patent cross-license agreement with Chinese PC and mobile maker Lenovo Group Ltd. The companies now agreed to settle all pending litigation over video-compression technology patents.
According to the agreement, Lenovo will make a net balancing payment to Nokia. The deal terms remain confidential.
Nokia had launched legal proceedings against Lenovo in 2019 over alleged infringement of 20 video-compression technology patents. The company filed cases in the United States, Brazil, India, as well as in Germany, where there were six cases between the parties.
Nokia completes multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement with Lenovo
Nokia has announced the conclusion of a multi-year patent cross-license agreement with Lenovo, that includes multiple technologies in the cellular and multimedia space. The agreement will require Lenovo to pay a net balancing amount to Nokia for these patents, and it resolves all pending patent litigation between the two companies.
Nokia often licenses out their patents to other companies based on the fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. The company has around 20,000 patent families, and has more than €129 billion invested in R&D over the past two decades alone.
The terms of this particular agreement between Lenovo and Nokia are confidential however.
