Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young says she needs people in Greater Brisbane to listen and follow the rules, as the city goes into a strict three day lockdown.
Residents in the local council areas of Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton and Redlands will be required to stay home from 6pm on Friday until 6pm Monday night, and only allowed to receive two visitors into their homes.
A mask mandate will be implemented for the same time period – with residents in the same local government areas required to don a mask upon leaving their place of residence.
“It will be too late if, on Monday, I stand up here in front of you and say: ‘We’ve had 10 cases, and they have been out infectious in the community infecting people,’” Dr Young said.
“We can’t put it back in the box. We’ve got to act before we get the cases and hopefully we know that not everyone spreads the virus, even with a more contagious variant.

COVID-19 drive-in testing clinics have been reinstated today in Warwick and Stanthorpe in response to an explosion in testing demand across the state.
Darling Downs Health today announced the pop-up clinics would be opened today outside Warwick and Stanthorpe hospitals, alongside those already available in any hospital’s emergency department across the region.
The Warwick clinic will operate in front of McCarthy House on Locke St, with residents asked to approach from the western side to avoid traffic queues affecting the New England Highway. Map of drive-in testing clinic at Warwick Hospital. Picture: DDH/SDRC
The Stanthorpe clinic will be set-up at the front steps of the main building, with resident asked to queue from the Bridge St entrance.
