Nottinghamshire Police thank people for sticking to coronavirus restrictions on New Year s Eve

Hundreds of thousands of people stuck to the rules to stop the spread of coronavirus last night, Nottinghamshire Police have revealed.
New Yearâs Eve is usually the most busy night of the year, but officers said it had been only slightly busier than any other night.
The force had put in place increased patrols in case of any adverse issues, but these were stood down in the early hours as the night passed peacefully across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

There were a few incidents where people deliberately chose to flout the rules, but officers today were keen to stress these were few and far between.

A police chief is urging people to stick to the rules and not hold any illegal gatherings tonight as part of New Year celebrations.
The warning comes as the county moves into tier four of coronavirus restrictions.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson last night urged everyone to spend New Yearâs Eve safely at home to help take pressure off the NHS, which is currently coming under increasing strain due to high admission rates.
