Driver who killed 2 in crash admitted drinking, but police didn t test him and charges were never laid
After his car struck two people in a crosswalk, the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta told a Calgary police officer he d been speeding, he had downed 12 ounces of alcohol and was worried he d go to jail for drunk driving, yet police didn t get a breath or blood sample and charges were never laid.

CALGARY The Calgary Police Service is partnering with the Bolo Program and Calgary Crime Stoppers to offer a $100,000 reward for help tracking down a first-degree murder suspect wanted for the 2015 death of a Calgary man. Police were called to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of Del Ray Road N.E. about 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2015. Officers arrived to find Hussein Merhi, 26, in medical distress and he died at the scene. Two suspects were later identified. Joseph Trieu, 26, of Calgary, was charged in July 2019 with one count of accessory after the fact to murder. A second man, Kier Bryan Granado, 24, is wanted for first-degree murder.

Sgt. Andrew Harnett, 37, died in hospital of injuries sustained during a traffic stop he conducted New Year s Eve. The driver of one of the vehicles Harnett stopped shortly before 11 p.m. tried to flee, taking off in an SUV and striking and dragging the officer.
