NACTA has the PNM comfortably ahead of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) in seven of the nine electoral districts it leads, noting a clean sweep of all 12 seats is not beyond the realm of possibilities. Two seats, the poll found, are too close to call.

PHOTO BY DAVID REID The People’s National Movement’s (PNM’s) Tobago Council will kick-start its campaign on Monday to retain control of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) in the January 25 election. Prospective candidates are expected to file their nomination papers between 9 am and 4 pm at three venues throughout the island: Calder Hall, Glen Road and John Dial community centres.

Onika Charles injured her foot during training to become a fire officer in Tobago. When 26-year-old Onika Charles of Crown Point began training to become of a firefighter with the T&T Fire Service (TTFS) in 2019, she never imagined that she would spend the next 20 months experiencing constant pain, neglect, mounting debt, and loss. Onika claimed after being injured at the TTFS dormitory, what she termed as negligence by the doctors at the Scarborough General Hospital has now placed her in constant pain, from a wound that has never healed due to an infection. Charles said she now requires specialist surgery to save her foot, yet pleas for assistance from authorities in Tobago have all fallen on deaf ears.

Lovell s property is being acquired by the State for the ANR Robinson International Airport expansion project. - A premature eviction notice has left one Crown Point resident unable to sleep and suffering chest pains. Although the letter was retracted a day later, Wolwin Lovell, 58, told Newsday the trauma of being told by the State to vacate his property within seven days, or face legal action, lingers. Lovell was among a group of nine residents who were served eviction letters from the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Land Management Division through the Commissioner of State Lands on Thursday. The residents properties are being acquired by the State as part of the ANR Robinson International Airport expansion project.
