Chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, the Commission directed issuance of a schedule for the polls. ECP members and officials and PPP senior leader Taj Haider attended the meeting. Legal Adviser Murtaza Wahab and other representatives of the Sindh government attended the meeting via video link. The secretary ECP informed the meeting that by-elections were pending in eight constituencies across the country, including six provincial and two National Assembly seats.

The decision was taken on Thursday at an ECP meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, during which he instructed poll officials to issue the by-election schedule at the earliest while keeping in mind the present SOPs against the pandemic, The Express Tribune reported.

During an ECP meeting, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, the election officials were instructed to issue the by-election schedule at the earliest, while the provincial governments were told to implement the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs). The ECP held the meeting on a letter written by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Taj Haider, which pointed out that under the Constitution of Pakistan and the law, elections have to be held within 60 days on any vacant seat.
