An Ohio man who allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend at a Bob Evans restaurant where she waitressed was arrested following an 11-hour manhunt Friday night, according to reports. Rebecca Jean Rogers, 38, was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital where she succumbed to her wounds, police said, according to FOX 8 in Cleveland. Diners at the Canton, Ohio, restaurant  took cover under tables on Friday morning when the suspect, Richard James Nelson, 54, allegedly opened fire on Rogers, then ran out the back door, precipitating the manhunt.

CANTON – The man in ripped jeans and a dirty T-shirt on a local street corner asking for money may not be mentally stable. Police Chief Jack Angelo wants residents to be safe but he also wants to keep that man from winding up behind bars. Many panhandlers suffer from mental health issues that grow, becoming problematic for police while they re actually dementia issues or simply a cry for help, he said. The number of those suffering from a mental health crisis that draws police attention is on the rise, Angelo said. Hoping to keep these people out of the criminal justice system, Angelo assigned detective Todd Gillilan, a 20-year veteran of the police department, to serve as a liaison between a  suspect and the care that person needs.

Canton vehicle break-ins spate tops 150 vehicles, 2 suspects arrested

CANTON Police and federal agents have arrested two men they believe are behind a rash of break-ins to more than 150 cars throughout the city throughout February. Christopher M. McKeown, 20, of Blecker Place NW, and Jose J. Bower-Lara, 20, of Daleford Avenue NE, were each arrested on felony grand theft warrants, Stark County Jail records show. McKeown was arrested at 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of Tuscarawas Street E on warrants charging him with felony failure to comply with police, receiving stolen property, grand theft and obstructing official business.  Bower-Lara was arrested at 9 a.m. Thursday at his home by agents with the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force on a felony grand theft warrant.
