Taoiseach Micheal Martin warns post Christmas lockdown on the cards before New Year to combat surging cases

TAOISEACH Micheal Martin has said people can expect more restrictions to be implemented after Christmas and before New Years.
According to the Fianna Fail leader, NPHET recommended for household visits to be restricted to one before the end of the year while the hospitality sector may also see further restrictions.

The stark warning came as cases continued to surge tonight with 484 new infections confirmed and three more deaths announced.
Speaking on RTE s Six One news, the Taoiseach said: NPHET will be recommending to Government that we would bring in restrictions before the end of the year.

The most recent figures show 484 new cases of covid-19 in the country – and three more deaths.
The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has warned people that if they do not limit their contacts now, the virus will spread in January.
