Ireland lockdown easing hope as more than 500,000 to receive vaccine earlier than planned
Irish Mirror 1 hour ago Sam Roberts
More than half a million people are set to receive their Covid-19 vaccine earlier than planned, it has been reported.
Ireland s lockdown exit has been given a boost after the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) recommended the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should be used for those aged 50 and older.
People aged 50 to 59 were originally expected to be vaccinated in June but this will be brought forward, with 550,000 people in their 50s set to be offered a jab earlier than planned, the Irish Independent reports.
Covid-19 Ireland: Which vaccine am I set to get and what are its side effects?
Irish Mirror 2 hrs ago Marita Moloney
Ireland s vaccine watchdog recommended yesterday that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should be used for those aged 50 and older. The National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) also advised Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan that the single-shot jab can be also used for people under 50 if no option of another vaccine is available.
Dr Holohan is due to consider this advice, and once the immunisation is given the green light, four different coronavirus vaccines will be available here.
It would also mean that all four inoculations will be available to those aged over 50.
