The gem and jewellery industry has sought reduction in customs duty on gold to four per cent, withdrawal of tax collected at source (TCS), cut in import duty on polished precious and semi-precious gemstones, in the upcoming Union Budget 2021-22. All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) Chairman Ashish Pethe told PTI, We urge the government to reduce the customs duty to 4 per cent from the current 12.5 per cent. If the tax rate is not kept at this level, it will encourage smuggling and encourage people to do unorganised business. He further urged the government to keep goods falling under HSN-71 (Harmonised System Nomenclature) out of the purview of TCS provisions as the amount of funds blocked in TCS is 6.67 times more than the ability to pay income tax, resulting in blockage of funds.
SpiceJet on Tuesday carried India s first consignment of Covid vaccine Covidshield consisting of 34 boxes and weighing 1,088 kilograms from Pune to Delhi, said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet. The first consignment containing vials of Covishield vaccine were dispatched from the Serum Institute of India here in the early hours of Tuesday, ahead of the January 16 launch of the nationwide vaccination drive. Amid tight security, three trucks carrying the very first consignment of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine left for Pune airport to be flown to 13 locations across the country today. The first flight will leave for Delhi from Pune airport, Sandip Bhosale, SB Logistics, the logistics team which is handling air transport of Covishield vaccine from Pune International Airport told ANI.

Coal India Ltd chairman and managing director Pramod Agrawal said the miner is emphasising on raising its output as it is committed to fulfil the energy requirement of the country. Agrawal inspected mining operations at Talcher belt of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), a subsidiary of CIL, in Odisha. The country s need is to produce more and more coal, he said, highlighting the prospect of demand surge for the dry fuel with increasing industrial activities in the post-COVID period.
