Industrialists: Need flexibility, not closure of units to rationalise power | Chandigarh News

Local residents shout slogans against the Punjab government during a protest against the ongoing power cuts and hike in electricity prices, in Amritsar on Wednesday PATIALA: Industrialists in Mandi Gobindgarh town of Fatehgarh Sahib district on Wednesday held a meeting and decided to give a memorandum to the state government demanding flexibility in allowing them to use power up to 50% instead of closing the industry to meet the power demand. Late on Monday evening, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) extended the power restrictions and asked the large-scale industries in Punjab using more than 100 KW of load in central, north, and west zones to shut down for another three days till July 10 as the state is facing power shortage. The continuous supply industry has also been asked to use just 50% of the sanctioned load from July 8 to July 18. This is necessary to maintain 8-hour supply to the agriculture sector.

Talwandi Sabo Power Limited thermal power plant BATHINDA/PATIALA/CHANDIGARH: The ongoing power crisis in Punjab deepened on Sunday when another unit of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) stopped power generation after a snag. One of the units of TSPL has been closed for the last over three months. With two units having stopped generation, only one unit is operational now. TSPL, situated at Banawali village in Mansa district, has three units of 660 MW each, producing 1,980 MW power. Before the snag hit unit number 1 in the early hours of Sunday, the power plant was producing 1,178 MW power, 142 MW less than the generation capacity of 1,320 MW from two units. It may take over 48 hours to make this unit operational, sources said.
