(WTVM) - The mayor of Columbus gave the latest update on hyper local COVID-19 cases Tuesday. During a city council meeting, Mayor Skip Henderson said the percentage of people testing positive for the virus is slightly increasing. The latest data from the Georgia Department of Public Health shows Muscogee County has 19 positive cases for the rolling seven-day average. Henderson said about 50,000 residents have been vaccinated, but this is no reason to stop keeping safety in mind.

(WTVM) - Miller-Motte College in Columbus is doing its part to stop the violence in the community. Friday, the college held its Unity in the Community event, which featured a ‘stop the violence’ enactment. There was a casket with a dummy inside, along with crime props around it. This display represented the result if violence doesn’t stop in the community. The idea came from the school’s criminal justice instructor as a way to help the community and bring everyone together.

(WTVM) - Numbers are trailing off in the fight against the pandemic and not in a good way. According to Jason Ritter, Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) director for the Columbus mass vaccination site, they should be vaccinating over 1,000 people Monday through Friday, but they have only been averaging 750. “Atlanta, first dose vaccinations there have been maxed out since day one and they have actually increased their allotment per day,” Ritter said.
