Brown County Sheriff s Report – Feb 22

On Saturday, Feb. 20 at approximately 1:43 p.m. Deputy Scotty Burke was dispatched to CR 382 in Early. This was in reference to the theft of a dirt bike and the theft of some tools.  On Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3:42 p.m. Deputy Carlyle James Gover, arrived at Ennis Drive. This was in reference to a theft, which occurred on the property. The caller advised an extension cord was taken from the property by an unknown white male riding away on a bicycle. After further investigation a report was made. On Saturday, Feb. 20 Deputy Mason Fabbiani performed a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Camaro in Bangs. This was for driving 126 mph in a 75 mph zone. While making contact, Deputy Fabbiani could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver appeared to be following instructions to exit the vehicle, but drove off at a high rate of speed toward Coleman County. The suspect drove to the Trickham turn off then turned around heading back into Brown County. The subject turned onto CR 177

Cherokee County domestic violence offender sentenced for possessing firearm Eastern District of Texas A 53-year-old Rusk man has been sentenced to prison for a federal firearms violation in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting United States Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei at the beginning of February. Larry Van Butcher, a.k.a. “Red,” pleaded guilty on Oct. 29, 2020, to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison by United States District Judge Jeremy D. Kernodle today.   “Domestic violence offenses represent a significant public safety concern in our communities, and, in the most tragic circumstances, result in a pattern of abuse and escalating violence,” said Acting United States Attorney Nicholas Ganjei.  “Restricting domestic violence offenders from possessing the tools to perpetrate similar or more severe crimes is a priority for the Department of Justice.”            

Six sentenced in 35th District Court

th District Court by Judge Mike Smith: DJ Lloyd Hickman, on probation for the felony offenses of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver and Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence, was adjudicated and sentenced to 10 years, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division. Tyler Ray Glass pled guilty to the felony offenses of Burglary of a Habitation and Assault Family Violence – Occlusion and was sentenced to 8 years, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division. Further, Glass, on probation for the felony offense of Evading Arrest, was adjudicated and sentenced to 8 years, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division.
