Charlotte Prouse, Amelia Mazza-Downie and Jamari Drake will represent the University of New Mexico track and field team at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregin hat began on Wednesday.
Prouse will be the first Lobo to compete; the women’s 3,000 steeplechase is Thursday at 5:02 p.m. She posted a season-best time of 9:44.99 at the NCAA West Regionals, earning her a second-place finish overall. The top 12 to finish in Thursday’s race will qualify for final round on Saturday at 4:24 p.m. MT.

New Mexico Sends Three to Outdoor NCAA Championships
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Charlotte Prouse, Amelia Mazza-Downie, and Jamari Drake will represent the University of New Mexico track and field team at the NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. Although the Championships will span from Wednesday to Saturday, the Lobos will only participate on Thursday and Saturday.
Prouse will be the first Lobo to compete, as she will run in the semifinal round of the women’s 3000 steeplechase Thursday at 5:02 p.m. MT. Prouse posted a season-best time of 9:44.99 at the NCAA West Regionals, earning her a second-place finish overall and a spot at Nationals. This is the third outdoor Championship in a row that Prouse has qualified for. In 2018 and 2019, Prouse finished in second place. The top 12 to finish in Thursday’s race will qualify for final round on Saturday at 4:24 p.m. MT.
Baptiste Depril-Dupre in the 1500 with an altitude-converted 3:49.14, while
Diamante Gumbs notched a pair of national top-10 marks in the throws (Gumbs is now ranked fourth in the discus and ninth in the shot put).
Barton County CC held steady at No. 2. The Cougars also had a big weekend at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open with
Ja’Kwan Hale taking over the NJCAA lead in the 400H at an altitude-converted 51.00, while
Denzel Feagin is now ranked second in the 200 at an altitude-converted 20.51 and the duo of
Gamali Felix and
Jevon O’Bryant sit No. 2 and No. 4 on the seasonal chart in the 400, respectively.

Top-ranked New Mexico JC certainly helped its cause this past weekend at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The T-Birds received an improved national-leading mark from
Victoria Villaneuva in the pole vault at 3.80m (12-5½), in addition to a fourth-ranked effort in the 400 from
Maria Simanca (55.71c) and an eighth-ranked heave in the shot put from
Luisarys Toledo at 13.31m (43-8).

Barton County CC had athletes turn in some big marks this past weekend, too. Camille Lewis (No. 2, 400H) and the 4×100 relay team (No. 1) stood out for the Lady Texans, while
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The University of New Mexico Track and Field Team is set to travel to Clovis, Calif. for the 2021 Mountain West Outdoor Championships. The three-day event kicks off Thursday, May 13, and runs through Saturday, May 15.
This will be the first conference championship event in two years. A total of 38 UNM Athletes will be participating in the meet.
Two program records have already been broken this season, one in the women’s high jump and one in the women’s 200m dash. It was Tianna Holmes who made both program and West Coast Relays history in the women’s 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 23.22 seconds. The previous UNM record was set by Barbara Bell (23.44) on April 28, 1984, and So Cal’s Juan Ball set the meet record in 1996 (23.39).
