Branson Face Mask Mandate Expires Friday

The city is encouraging local businesses to mandate their own safety requirements for staff and customers. Press Release In a double read, the Branson Board of Aldermen unanimously voted in favor of an ordinance that would repeal Chapter 58 of the Branson Municipal Code pertaining to communicable diseases and face coverings that nullifies the required use of face coverings in public spaces, effective as of 12:01 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2021, at the regular Board of Aldermen meeting that was held on April 13, 2021.

Newly sworn-in Branson Mayor Larry Milton started his two-year term by fulfilling a key campaign promise: the repeal of Branson s public health masking order, first enacted July 31 after extensive discussion amid rising COVID-19 case counts. On Tuesday night, the Branson Board of Aldermen voted 6-0 in favor of a public masking repeal to take effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday, modifying a bill Milton introduced earlier that called for immediate repeal. Aldermen also considered a possible repeal in 7 to 10 days, in a bid to give businesses time to prepare for changes, but settled on a timeframe of roughly 48 hours. The end of mandated masking in Branson was already on the books before Tuesday night s vote.

So far, Cox and Mercy Springfield have each vaccinated around 14,000 people, and Cox will give shots to 5700 more people both the public and Cox employees in the next few days.  Jordan Valley has given out around 9600 vaccines locally.  Local health leaders are hopeful vaccine production will ramp up soon. Cox and Mercy are included in hospitals that the state is getting extra vaccines to this month to try to get as many people vaccinated as possible.  When Mercy gets an expected 5700 doses next week, it will share 1200 of those with Mercy Joplin, 1200 with Freeman Hospital in Joplin and 500 with CMH in Bolivar.
