Standards awareness campaign attracts more students
MORE than 15,000 students from primary and secondary schools who conduct their activities in public areas such as at bus terminals , markets, auctions in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region, Bagamoyo District - Coast Region and Mkinga District in Tanga Region have attended awareness campaign.
The campaign which was conducted by officials of Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) also benefited the community where as a total of 12,250 people attended. It was conducted between May 4 to 10 this year.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam the TBS public relations officer Neema Mtemvu said they have sensitised students in primary and secondary schools on the roles of use of certified products and they were given the free telephone numbers for communication in case they encounter any challenge
Jafo orders EPZA, TPA and NEMC to trace expired molasses containers
A cross section of government regulatory authorities and security agents at Dar es Salaam Port have been put to task by Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office responsible for Union Affairs and the Environment, Selemani Jafo for negligence regarding importation of more than 300 containers .
Jafo who visited the port this week doubted the competence and integrity of officials from Tanzania Ports Authority, Tanzania Revenue Authority, National Environment Man agent Council and Export Processing Zone Authority for allowing the unidentified bogus investor who imported the substance and abandoned it at the port and other bonded warehouses.

MEMBERS of the Standing Committee on Industries, Trade and Environment of the National Assembly have called on the Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) to enhance technology and innovation in service provision.

They challenged SIDO to adopt modern technologies in its operations, increase innovation in nurturing small industries and thus help to create employment.
The committee’s deputy chairperson, Eric Shigongo (Buchosa) said at a familiarization seminar about SIDO and its activities, that the organization should put more efforts in research on making new equipment and machinery.

Govt sticks with local inspection of vehicles
THE government has defended its decision to inspect all imported used vehicles in the country beginning next month, saying it will create more jobs and boost revenue collection.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday at a sensitization meeting with importers of used vehicles, the Director General of the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) Dr Yusuf Ngenya said the decision will see more Tanzanians hired in the designated garages for inspection.
“Conducting vehicle inspection in the country has many advantages; it helps increase employment opportunities for our garages and the government would earn income for development activities,” he said.
