(Contributed photo) Imagine being homeless and still having to do school work in order to graduate. Or just advance to the next grade level. Family Promise of Clark County, a nonprofit based in Camas that helps families experiencing homelessness, jumped in to help students by launching its FP Cares Educational Services in November. Along with that came its Learning Support Center.

Andrew Pilch Jr

Andrew Pilch Jr., 71, of Weeki Wachee, Fla., entered eternal rest Monday, Feb. 8, 2021. Andy was born Dec. 9, 1949, in Wilkes Barre, the son of the late Andrew Pilch Sr. and Josephine Skoronski Pilch. He was a 1967 graduate of GAR High School and proceeded to work as a welder at Sterling Products Manufacturing, Wilkes-Barre. He was a former resident of West Wyoming for many years. He is survived by his wife, Gerri Burgio-Pilch; siblings, Barbara Myzick; David Pilch; and Rosemarie Pilch; and his five children; two stepchildren; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Andrew was a strong, patient, determined man. He referred to his adoptive home of Florida as, “My Paradise.” He was a collector of many things, including model cars, baseball cards and music. Music was the light of his heart and he even owned a small record store at one point in his life. Andy possessed a strong faith in God and he read the Bible often. He would love to reminisce

Arizona funeral homes stressed with second wave of COVID-19

When Jeri Whooley s mother, Geraldine Immediato, died in 2014, the family was able to hold a funeral service within two days at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home in Avondale.  This year, when her father, Lou, passed away on Jan. 1, she was unable to schedule his burial service for two weeks.  That’s incredible to have to wait that long to start putting everything to rest, she said.  The burial delay comes as large numbers of COVID-19 deaths are putting pressure and stress on Arizona funeral homes. Across the state, beginning in December, COVID-19 deaths have spiked to far higher than summer s peak rates.
