INDIANAPOLIS â Valparaiso resident Connor Kerner has asked the state Appellate Court to find that Porter County prosecutors improperly played a recording during trial of the two murders he was convicted of carrying out on Feb. 25, 2019, at his grandparents home near Hebron.
The challenge to that recording and another claiming to capture a confession are part of the 19-year-old s appeal of his conviction and 179-year sentence in the killings of Thomas Grill, of Cedar Lake, and Molley Lanham, of St. John.
Kerner further argues his lengthy sentence is inappropriate for a juvenile and that the state appellate courts have revised at least four such sentences for young people.

VALPARAISO, Ind. A convicted killer from Valparaiso is planning to appeal his long jail sentence.
Connor Kerner was convicted of killing two people in Lake County back in February of 2019. A jury found him guilty and in December of last year, a judge sentenced him to 179-years in prison.
It’s not clear what the ground for his appeal would be yet.
Investigators say Kerner murdered Thomas Grill and Molley Lanham two years ago. They say Grill apparently tried to rob Kerner during a drug deal, but when grill noticed he had no bullets in his gun Kerner beat him to death with a pipe.
