This historic Ann Arbor church is celebrating Easter with brand new murals Updated Apr 04, 2021; ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor’s St. Thomas The Apostle Church took advantage of its limited capacity for services during the pandemic to install three new hand-painted murals and renovate the arch and dome over their altar. Rev. Ashbaugh said the 120-year old interior had originally featured similar images on the walls of the historic church, located on the cobbled corner of Elizabeth and State streets, . “When it was first built, (there were) some beautiful murals inside the church, and now 120 some years later, there were no murals in the church, zero,” Ashbaugh said. “Before the renovation, you could walk into St. Thomas church and have absolutely no idea that it was related to St. Thomas at all.”
