Thompson Rivers University offers tuition free trades program

CFNR Network Jul 27, 2021 | 4:53 PM The Thompson Rivers University in Williams Lake is once again offering a tuition-free trades program, this time it will be for a construction craft workers level on course. The Continuing studies community coordinator Alison Sutherland-Mann stated that the course will run from Aug. 23 to Oct. 29 of this year and she also said that the course is an ITA endorsed trades training program. Students will be building a small structure and they will receive 10 different certificates such as Occupational First Aid level one, traffic control, fall protection, fire safety and confined space. Sutherland-Mann gave credit to Heather Hamilton, who works in trades and training at TRU Kamloops, for applying for a grant in order to fund the program, which not only provided tuition but the grant also was able to buy personal protective equipment, a few tools and books.

Westsyde multi-use path takes step forward

The Westsyde Road multi-use path project involves creating a 430-metre long, 3.6-metre wide paved multi-use path along the west side of Westsyde Road between Westmount Drive and Batchelor Hills Drive, including intersection pavement markings, pathway lighting, pedestrian tactile surfaces and widened bus stop areas. According to a city staff report, the project would complete a continuous active transportation route for cyclists, pedestrians and others from Aberdeen to Batchelor Heights and Westsyde. The new path would extend an existing multi-use path that currently runs along the east side of Westsyde Road from Westmount elementary on Walkem Road to the intersection of Westmount Drive.
