The Investor Confidence Index (ICI) remained in bullish territory for the third consecutive month in February as investors bet on a brighter Covid-19 outlook after vaccine distribution began and more fund inflows headed to emerging markets, driving old economy stocks to outperform new normal stocks this year.
However, the rising number of Covid-19 cases tarnished investors confidence the most, followed by worries over international conflicts and a local economic retreat.
Paiboon Nalinthrangkurn, chairman of the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organizations (Fetco), said the ICI for the next three months rose to 152.19, a 14.8% increase from the previous month, hovering in the bullish zone for the third consecutive month.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has set a strategic plan for 2021-2023, aiming to strengthen and accelerate economic recovery as well as improve the Thai capital market s resilience amid a volatile environment, says SEC secretary-general Ruenvadee Suvarnmongkol.
To help the economy recover, the SEC plans to launch measures to increase liquidity for businesses affected by the pandemic, said Ms Ruenvadee.
Among the measures is the SEC s plan to give small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups more access to security and debt financing through a crowdfunding ecosystem and secondary exchange for SMEs.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s Board of Governors (BoG) today resolved to elect Prasarn Trairatvorakul as the 17th Chairman of the Board to succeed Chaiyawat Wibulswasdi whose term has ended, as well as to name Pichet Sithi-Amnuai as Vice Chairman. The current BoG has a three-year tenure, effective from today to February 4, 2024.
Prasarn received his bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, master’s degree in Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology. He has also obtained master’s degree and doctorate degree in Business Administration from Harvard University, the United States. Prior to joining SET, Prasarn held several prominent national positions such as Governor of Bank of Thailand, Secretary General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Chairman of National Economic Reform Committee, among others.
