IRS Warns of Fraudulent Tax Preparers
This is the tax season and if you are looking for someone to prepare your taxes in Yakima make sure you choose with care say officials with the Internal Revenue Service. Many people trust friends or family members with preparing tax returns and while that s a popular practice remember you are responsible for the information on your return. Internal Revenue Service officials say even though a good majority of tax return preparers are honest and provide quality service some aren t honest and can cause you years of problems down the road. A release from the IRS says some cause great harm through fraud, identity theft and other scams every year. Paid tax return preparers completed more than half of the tax returns submitted to the IRS in tax-year 2018.
Police Continue To Investigate Wednesday Shooting
Yakima Police Capt. Jay Seely says 4 juveniles involved in a drive-by shooting on Wednesday were arrogant when they were taken into custody after a car they were in crashed into a school bus following a drive-by shooting earlier in the day. The 4 juveniles range in age from 15 to 17-years-old. Two were released and two were arrested. The two juveniles arrested face numerous charges including assault. Bail was set at $50,000 each during an appearance Thursday in Yakima County Juvenile Court. Both are being held in the juvenile jail.
Seely says he doesn t believe two victim gang members were shot in retaliation to a gang related killing in Yakima last year. Seely and other officers say they believe a gang war is coming and will involve gang members from outside the area. He doesn t think Wednesday s shootings were connected to the killing last year. COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics Friday and Weekend in Yakima Valley
COVID-19 vaccine clinics will be open in the Yakima Valley this weekend. Officials at Astria Health says a vaccine clinic is set for Friday, February 26 at KDNA radio station at 121 Sunnyside Avenue in Granger from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be available to Phase 1A and Phase 1B-Tier 1 Community members on a first come first serve basis so no appointment is needed. In Toppenish also on Friday, The Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic is hosting a COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Toppenish Middle School. Call (509) 865-5600 to register.
Vaccine Doses Increasing But Not Enough Yet For Mass Site
More COVID-19 vaccines are arriving every week in Yakima County but still not enough to open a mass site at Yakima s State Fair Park. Yakima County continues to operate in Phase 1B Tier 1 of COVID-19 vaccination. This week the county received 12, 350 doses of the vaccine which includes 9,050 first doses and 3,300 second doses. That s a big increase in doses after the county received an average of 3,000 to 5,000 doses over the last month. Yakima Health District officials say if you are searching for a vaccine you first need to determine if you are eligible by going to the website findyourphasewa.org.
