Speaking to the rent striker students fighting targeted evictions

Felix was given 28 days notice to leave halls, and has struggled to devote adequate time to studies while navigation the eviction and appeals process. As a key QMUL Rent Strike organiser, they’ve also spent time helping other evicted students. A statement from QMUL Rent Strike adds that students have been given insufficient support following their eviction, waiting weeks for help with applying to COVID hardship funds, and in some cases being made homeless. The statement also notes that QMUL evicted a disproportionate number of students (111) between 2017 and 2019, when compared with other London universities. “Only very occasionally do we have such significant issues with a resident that we have to issue a Notice to Quit,” a spokesperson for the university tells Dazed. “However, when students endanger their own lives, and the lives of others, for example by disabling fire safety equipment or repeatedly breaching coronavirus regulations, we have no option but to request that

Meet the former YEEZY designer refusing to be pigeonholed

An homage to his second generation upbringing and hybridity of cultural references, Lourdes had been a longtime coming for Aresti, who despite having no formal qualifications in fashion, could rival even the most hype-worthy of boutiques with the brands listed on his CV. At 17, the Queens native was taken in by Gypsy Sport, before stints at Diesel and a short tenure with Kanye West followed. He was part of the team that launched Urban Identities and is now consulting for Shayne Oliver on the rekindling of Hood by Air.  It’s not surprising that Lourdes has often been viewed through the lens of streetwear, yet it’s something the designer often feels suffocated by. “I don’t like to be boxed into one thing, so I hate when people say ‘oh this is streetwear’. What isn’t worn in the streets?” he says. “I try to make sure my clothing is approachable for everyday life but the collections keep elevating each season and that is something I’m proud of.” One example is t

Watch a trailer for the Flying Lotus-scored anime series Yasuke

Set in war-torn feudal Japan, Yasuke revolves around the real-life story of a Black samurai who lived in Japan during the 16th century. According to a synopsis from Netflix, he struggles to live a peaceful life following a past filled with violence. “But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.” Marking a slight departure from historical events, the trailer teases characters wielding magic, while promotional materials hint at the importance of mechs. Rihanna s latest vintage look sees her in archival Gucci jeans

The last few weeks, in particular, have seen Ri bless us with some rare vintage looks from the likes of Gucci and Chanel. Earlier this week, for instance, the singer was spotted out in Los Angeles, wearing a pair of feathered and beaded jeans from the Gucci archives specifically, the label’s SS99 collection by then-creative director Tom Ford. Incidentally, those same jeans are currently listed for a cool £11,000 (or around $15,000) online. Paired with a white t-shirt and a massive faux fur bucket hat, the jeans follow a string of other archival finds paired with pieces from emerging designers (see: the vintage Chanel coat and Dior choker worn with a set from Maisie Wilen, or the Mowalola tank top layered with a Dries Van Noten fur coat). Rihanna’s LVMH-backed Fenty fashion house may be closing its doors after just two years in operation, but that obviously doesn’t mean she has to stop raiding the fashion archives to serve us her own, iconic looks any time soon.
